Carrol Rosenbloom, owner of the Baltimore Colts, fired Weeb Ewbank as head coach-subject year minus one. Since winning back to back titles in 1958-59, Baltimore was only a slightly above average team and saw no post season action. Don Shula, in his first year at Baltimore, had an 8-6 record and it was a prelude to greatness. Keep in mind the yearly records of the teams that victimized the Colts:
New York Giants 11-3 This was an interconference game at Baltimore. The Giants were first in the East.
Chicago Bears 11-1-2 NFL Champion defeating New York 14 to 10.
Green Bay Packers 11-2-2. As stated Green Bay lost both of the games with Chicago.
Game 1 at Baltimore. The Colts lost to the New York Giants 37 to 28
Game 3 at Green Bay. The Colts lost to the Green Bay Packers 31 to 20.
Game 4 at Chicago. The Colts lost to the Chicago Bears 10 to 3.
Game 7 at Baltimore. The Colts lost to the Green Bay Packers 34 to 20.
Game 8 at Baltimore. The Colts lost to the Chicago Bears 17 to 7.
The Colts had a dynasty from 1964 to 1968.
