Two Exciting Wins vs Raiders in the 80s

1980 Oakland at Philadelphia. Coming into Veterans Stadium the Raiders were 7-4, three games dividing them from the 10-1 Eagles.

-the first half was exciting, crisp, and scoreless;
-in the third quarter, Tony Franklin booted a 51 yard field goal;
-in the fourth quarter Jim Plunkett threw an 86 yard touchdown pass to Cliff Branch;
-Philadelphia drove to the Oakland three with a 47 yard pass to LeRoy Harris;
-Wilbert Montgomery scored a touchdown.

The Eagle defense sacked Jim Plunkett eight times for 62 yards in loses and intercepted three passes.

Philadelphia defeated the team that was on its way to a Super Bowl victory 27 to 10. Defeating the eventual Super Bowl winner is a significant milestone in any team’s history. This time though the Raiders defeated the Eagles.

1986 Philadelphia at Los Angeles. The Raiders were 8-4 to 3-9 for the Eagles. This was most exciting game of the year with special teams, defense, and offense blazing. The scoring tells the story.

Sacks were plentiful. LA sacked Randall Cunningham 11 for 57 yards in losses. The Eagles not quite as good with six sacks for 48 yards.

For the Eagles, Cunningham completed 22 of 39 for 298 yards and three touchdowns. Mike Quick caught eight passes for 145 yards. For LA, Jim Plunkett completed 16 of 42 passes for 366 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles, in this Buddy Ryan’s first year, were 5-10-1. Los Angeles had a streaky year. Lost three in a row; won five in a row; lost one game; won three in a row; lost four in a row.
